Macro Integration Services received an Innovative Solution Award from The Retail Solutions Providers Association (RSPA) and Vertical Systems Reseller (VSR) magazine. Presented at the annual RSPA tradeshow, the awards honor Resellers, Value Added Resellers (VARs) and Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) of retail technology that develop innovative, multi-vendor retail and/or hospitality technology solutions.
Macro Integration Services won in the In-Store Customer Touch Points category for the EZ Horseplay kiosk, the self-service solution it developed for Colonial Downs in New Kent, Virginia. Colonial Downs is Virginia's only pari-mutuel horse racetrack, enabling customers who place winning bets to receive a share of the jackpot pool. It is currently in the process of expanding off-track betting, enabling horse racing fans to watch and wager on live races year-round via satellite from around the country.
The EZ Horseplay self-service kiosk enables patrons in private clubs to deposit money into their account, print out racing forms, place wagers and receive their winnings in a secure way. Previously, Colonial Downs faced significant costs to staff these remote locations which slowed down its expansion strategy and required significant investments in training and human resources.
To address the business challenges, Macro Integration Services worked with Colonial Downs, NCR, ELO, and Netkey to develop a complete solution, using self-service technology and kiosk management software from NCR Corporation and other vendors.
The NCR Netkey kiosk software provided Macro Integration Services with highly-scalable and standards-based software that enabled the rapid integration of kiosk peripheral devices, provided an intuitive and easy-to-navigate user interface and offers remote management to lower IT administration and on-site support costs.
This solution provides several innovations in retail technology. For example, it is the first kiosk to include an integrated thermal printer to print out full-sized sheets of paper, enabling patrons to print out racing forms. This essential feature was custom-developed by Macro Integration with the kiosk cabinet manufacturer. This integration, as opposed to having a separate printer, keeps the overall footprint of the solution down to maximize space within the remote location. Additional security innovations are also featured to help verify the identity of users as well as for cash management. These include electronic locks and an integrated electronic driver's license scanner.
